Guest Post Today

Good morning friends!

I am excited to share’s today’s guest blogger, Emma B. Joyce, interior designer and blogger from Australia.  She is always in the process of searching new styles, inspirations and advice on how to renovate and decorate your workspace.

As such, Emma reached out to me earlier this month about guest posting on Everything’s Coming Up Rosie. In her email, she proposed writing a post about how to decorate your office environment. I absolutely loved the blog post idea and it was something that I’ve thought about adding to my blog.

I mean, who doesn’t want to have their own inspired workspace? And if you like this post let me know in the comments below!

Office Organization

The first part of this lies in the office organization itself. Originally, working in cubicles were a good idea but today, it is counter-productive. All it does is gives slackers more freedom to avoid doing work and make the conscientious ones feel like they are sitting in a cell. The point is to make the room open and, in this way, create a work-friendly atmosphere. By allowing your staff members to see others hard at work, you create a positive peer pressure, which can be quite inspiring.

Word of caution, although you need to create an open floor plan in your office, make sure that everyone has at least some amount of privacy. Having everyone look at your screen while working causes a no small amount of discomfort that can sometimes result in a drop in productivity.

Desk Management

The next thing on your schedule is proper desk organization. After all, it is where you actually work, which means that its layout has a direct impact on your efficiency.

First thing first, you need to get rid of the mess.

Anything that is non-essential to your work (apart from few elements we will discuss later on) need to go away. On the other hand, items you need at every moment like your computer, pen or phone should be within easy reach. If your desk has drawers, you need to manage them properly so you do not waste time on items you need right away. Overall, when it comes to making work-efficient office space, proper management is half the work.

Quality Chair

One of the things that bear the greatest significance for one’s productivity is having a quality office chair. This element has an effect on your health, as well as your productivity. The height of the chair determines the angle at which you look at the monitor and in this way affects your vision. The chair you sit in also affects your posture. If you have ever tried to focus while experiencing severe back pain, you know just how important this can be.

Non-Work Essentials

Seeing how we have already discussed the harmfulness of cubicles, it would not be strange to carry on in this manner and briefly discuss non-work essentials you should have on your desk. Having a family photo, a vacation memento or otherwise meaningful item can be a great boost for your productivity. When going gets tough, it can remind you of why do you do all of this and help you to carry on. You should never underestimate the power of intrinsic motivation.

Open Up the Room

Finally, your workspace should not be restricted to your desk. A great way to connect the room is to hang motivational posters around the place or even get mount some wall clocks where everyone can check the time. Furthermore, there is always the traditional water cooler area to go for. This particular spot serves as the information center, a place for a rivalry standoff, chat room and dating site at the same time. Therefore, it is more than worth having one installed in your office.

Ready to work?

As you can see, decorating your workspace to give you maximum productivity and inspiration is mostly a matter of choice. One way or another, you would have to buy a workstation, so why not get the high-end ones and do your employees a favor of a lifetime. This does not even have to break your budget since you are already saving money on not buying cubicles. All you need afterward is a bit of strategic office planning and a few accessories to complete the image.
