Happy Monday Folks!

How was your weekend? Did you make it through? Did you do anything exciting?

It was pretty windy here most of the weekend. I’ve forgotten how I get painful earaches and my allergies will flare up when it’s this windy. However, I was able to have supper with friends Friday night and yesterday afternoon was spent at Enmax Centre.

In our city of just over 90,000, we hosted Hometown Hockey. It was supposed to be a weekend event, but due to high winds they ended up cancelling Saturday’s events.

On a cross country tour, Ron MacLean, a Canadian sportscaster, best known as the host of Hockey Night in Canada shares stories as he travels the country with the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour.

Mark Messier, former NHL hockey player and Canadian Country Singer, Paul Brandt were also in attendance.

I came across this YouTube video recently and thought it would make a great post for my Motivational Monday segment.

Growing up in the 80’s, bodybuilding was huge in my house. I started lifting weights with my dad when I was 11 or 12 years old. As I’ve mentioned in other posts, my dad was big into fitness, especially bodybuilding.

Sergio Oliva, Tom Platts, Franco Columbu, Frank Zane, Lee Haney and Samir Bannout were all all names that I was familiar with as a kid. My dad had plenty of health and bodybuilding magazines laying around the house. But, my favourite bodybuilder was Arnold  Schwarzenegger.

As an immigrant from Austria, Arnold has become one of the biggest household names in America. He won the Mr. Olympia title 7 times, from 1970 to 1975, and in 1980. Twice, he set the standard as the highest paid actor in Hollywood. First in 1991, with Terminator 2: Judgement Day by earning 20 million dollars, and then again in 2000, for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines for which he earned 30 million dollars. After years of numerous blockbuster movie roles, Schwarzenegger went into politics, becoming governor of California in 2003.

His story of achieving the all-american dream is truly inspiring.  In 2009, in his University of Southern California (USC)  Commencement Speech, Arnold shared his “6 rules to success” in an epic speech that will inspire generations to come:
